BaltCF WaterTreatmentPark

At 26.03.2024 The Baltic Sea Conservation Foundation (BaltCF) approved Viimsi municipalities WaterTreatmentPark project application. Main goal of the WaterTreatmentPark project is to reconstruct two existing ponds in Mõisapark (Manor Park) so that the stormwater that flows through the ponds will be improved. The reconstruction works will be based on technical design created during the Interreg Central Baltic CleanStormWater project.

Goal of the stormwater treatment system is to guarantee that the water from impacted stormwater catchment area is treated from nutrients and potential hazardous substances before it is directed to the Baltic Sea. Within the project lower Mõisapargi (Manor Park) pond and the pond near the Laidoner memorial will be reconstructed. During the reconstruction works both ponds will be cleared from existing bottom sediments, outlets of the ponds will be reconstructed, around the and inside the ponds specially selected plants will be planted, inside the ponds rocks will be installed to improve water circulation, outlets of both ponds will be also reconstructed. After the reconstruction works municipality will monitor the stormwater quality to analyze the effectiveness of the treatment solution.

Duration of the WaterTreatmentPark project is 24 months, project started 1.04.2024 and it will end 31.03.2026. Overall budget of the project is 266 200 euros, from which BaltCF support is 212 960 euros, rest is covered by Viimsi municipalities self contribution. BaltCF is a NGO with exclusive aim of promoting environmental protection and nature conservation in the Baltic Sea region.

26. märtsil 2024. aastal kiitis Läänemere Kaitse Sihtasutus (BaltCF) heaks Viimsi vallavalitsuse koostatud WaterTreatmentPark projekti taotluse. WTP projekti eesmärk on ehitada välja Interreg CB CleanStormWater projekti käigus projekteeritud, kuid mitte rajatud Mõisapargi tiikide sademevee puhastussüsteem. 

Puhastussüsteemi laiem eesmärk on tagada, et Viimsi valla sademeveesüsteemidest jõuab Läänemerre puhas sademevesi millest on eemaldatud ohtlikud reost- ning toimetained. Projekti raames rekonstrueeritakse alumine Mõisapargi tiik ning Laidoneri mälestusmärgi juures asuv tiik. Rekonstrueerimise tööde käigus puhastatakse tiigid settest, nende väljavoolud rekonstrueeritakse, tiikide sisse ja ümber istutatakse täiendav taimestus, tiikide sisse paigutatakse kivid mis soodustavad vee ringlust ning tiikide väljavooludele paigaldatakse võimalusel vee kvaliteedi andurid. Ehitustegevuse järel viiakse läbi projekti järgne vee kvaliteedi mõõtmine.

WaterTreatmentPark projekt kestab 24 kuud – 1.04.2024 kuni 31.03.2026. Projekti eelarve on 266 200 eurot, millest BaltCF toetus moodustab 212 960 eurot. Projekti rahastab BaltCF, mille näol on tegemist Saksamaal registreeritud eraõiguslike sihtasutustega, mida juhivad keskkonnakaitsealased mittetulundusühendused.
